How much can your Minecraft farm produce per hour?
The Yield Calculator estimates output by farm size, base rates and efficiency. Values below use typical base rates at default tick speed (approx.; real output varies by chunk loading and design).
| Crop / Farm Type | Units | Base rate (items / unit / hr) | Example: 100 units โ items/hr | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ๐พ Wheat (per plant) | plants | ~0.6 | ~60 | manual/auto harvest; seeds return |
| ๐ฅ Carrot (per plant) | plants | ~0.9 | ~90 | villager farms scale well |
| ๐ฅ Potato (per plant) | plants | ~0.9 | ~90 | poisoned potato chance |
| ๐ Sugar Cane (per block) | blocks | ~0.7 | ~70 | piston observers, water edge |
| ๐ต Cactus (per block) | blocks | ~0.6 | ~60 | lossless designs use strings |
| ๐ Bamboo (per stalk) | stalks | ~1.2 | ~120 | great for fuel/scaffolding |
| ๐ชธ Kelp (per plant) | plants | ~1.0 | ~100 | smelted โ dried kelp blocks |
| ๐ถ๏ธ Nether Wart (per plant) | plants | ~0.6 | ~60 | soul sand; brewing supply |
| ๐ Pumpkin (per stem) | stems | ~0.5 | ~50 | pumpkin/melon alternating rows |
| ๐ Melon (per stem) | stems | ~0.5 | ~50 | silk touch for whole blocks |
Key insight
Bamboo and kelp lead in raw items/hr per unit; villager-driven carrot/potato farms achieve high throughput with compact footprints. For passive farms you can also estimate idle gains with the AFK Farm Output Estimator.

Maxโs example
Max runs 100 wheat plants at normal efficiency and sees ~60 items/hr. Switching the layout to bamboo (100 stalks) boosts output to ~120 items/hrโdouble the throughput with the same footprint.
How efficiency presets and tick speed change farm yield
Multiply base rates by the efficiency factor that matches your design and world settings.
| Preset | Factor | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Normal (hydrated/standard) | ร0.80 | basic layouts, average uptime |
| Optimized (well-lit, lossless) | ร1.00 | observer/piston timing tuned |
| Clocked/Chunk-loaded AFK | ร1.20 | player stays in range; hopper-clock cycles |
| Higher tick speed (server rule) | ร1.50 | RNG/tps dependent; admin-controlled |
Target output planner (required units)
How many units do you need to hit a goal? Example below compares wheat vs sugar cane at base rates above.
| Goal (items/hr) | Wheat (~0.6 /u/hr) | Sugar Cane (~0.7 /u/hr) |
|---|---|---|
| 64 | ~107 units | ~92 units |
| 256 | ~427 units | ~366 units |
| 512 | ~854 units | ~732 units |
- ๐ Keep chunks loaded; place AFK spot within spawn/tick range.
- ๐ก Use water streams & hopper clocks to minimize item loss.
- ๐งฐ Plan storage: large bamboo/kelp farms can overflow fastโsize chests early with the Inventory Space Calculator.

Note
All numbers are estimates. Server TPS, mob caps, random ticks, and design losses can raise or lower real output significantly.
